How Blogging Has Changed My Life

It’s Monday and I’m still recuperating from the weekend.  I haven’t really had any down time which is abnormal for me.  But there were some things happening in my city that I really needed to experience.  If I weren’t blogging about the culture, I may have passed on both events.  I’m almost ashamed to admit it since I consider myself a lover of hip hop.  But it is what it is.  I prepared in advance and when the time came I almost had to force myself to get up and get out to these events.  You’ll get to read about them this week, but until then here’s how my life has changed since I started this shit.

I go out more often

I’ll just be honest I’m a homebody.  My idea of a good time is chilling at the crib reading a good book or watching a movie.  Maybe it’s because of my 9-5, but I enjoy being by myself.  But I take this hip hop shit seriously.  I am hip hop, but I realized early on that I won’t have much to write about if I don’t continue to immerse myself in the culture.  Even if it means attending events I wouldn’t normally attend, or listening to MCs I wouldn’t normally listen to.  I gotta do that shit.  So that means stepping outside my comfort zone, putting on clothes and coming outside every so often.

I no longer go on celebrity gossip websites

I’m not naming names here.  I’m sure you guys are familiar with some of these blogs.  What used to be a guilty pleasure no longer serves a purpose for me.  In all honesty I don’t have time.  I don’t do celebrity gossip here, so any time spent on the internet has to be productive.  If it’s not giving me ideas about new content for Rapmajor I can’t waste time on it.  I’m happy to say I don’t miss it, either.  Not shading any of those sites, but my purpose here is to provide exposure that uplifts.  I’ll leave the gossip to them.

I’m constantly looking for new music

This one should be obvious.  If you’re going to do a blog about underground hip hop, you need to know where to find it.   As I stated on the home page, I’ve always loved hip hop enough to search for it.  But searching for my own personal use is quite different from searching for my readers.  I did an article a week or so ago about MCs that you should check for this year.   Here’s the link in case you missed it:

8 MC’s To Check For In 2019

But in the article, I featured two artists who I would probably never listen to again.  I did that because I wanted to be fair.  I know those artists will probably blow, they’re just not my cup of tea.  And there’s nothing wrong with that. This blog is all me, but it’s not about me.  It’s about the culture so I want to make sure there’s something here for everybody.

I’m not even a month in with this blog, but I already see it having an impact on how I move in my city and even how I live my everyday life.  As I continue to grow and learn I will keep you updated on the changes I see in myself.  I hope you’ll come with me on this journey.   Until next time…. Peace

Stay tuned this week.  I’ll be blogging about the events I attended this past weekend.  I promise you don’t want to miss this.
